الفوم: الحنطة، وقيل: هي الثوم، يقال: ثوم وفوم، كقولهم: جدث وجدف . قال تعالى: وفومها وعدسها [البقرة/ 61].

el-Fûm: Buğday. Bir görüşe göre ise sarımsaktır. 'Sûm' ve 'fûm' denir; nitekim 'cedes' ve 'cedef' dedikleri gibi. Yüce Allah şöyle buyurmuştur: '...ve onun fûmunu ve mercimeğini...' [2:61].
