الشيب والمشيب: بياض الشعر. قال تعالى: واشتعل الرأس شيبا [مريم/ 4]، وباتت المرأة بليلة شيباء: إذا افتضت، وبليلة حرة : إذا لم تفتض.

eş-Şeyb ve el-meşîb: saçın ağarması (beyazlaması). Yüce Allah şöyle buyurdu: "Baş, ağarmayla (şeyb ile) tutuştu/alev aldı" [19:4]. "Kadın, 'şeybâ' bir gece geçirdi" denir: bekâreti giderilip (zifafa girip) el sürüldüğünde. "'Hurre' bir gece geçirdi" denir: kendisine dokunulmadığı (zifafa girmediği) zaman.
