When they disregarded the warnings that had been given them, We rescued those who forbade Evil; but We visited the wrong-doers with a grievous punishment because they were given to transgression.

When they ignored [the warning] they were given, We saved those who forbade evil, and punished the wrongdoers severely because of their disobedience.

فلما تركت الطائفة التي اعتدت في يوم السبت ما ذُكِّرت به، واستمرت على غيِّها واعتدائها فيه، ولم تستجب لما وَعَظَتْها به الطائفة الواعظة، أنجى الله الذين ينهون عن معصيته، وأخذ الذين اعتدَوْا في يوم السبت بعذاب أليم شديد؛ بسبب مخالفتهم أمر الله وخروجهم عن طاعته.
