المكث: ثبات مع انتظار، يقال: مكث مكثا. قال تعالى: فمكث غير بعيد [النمل] [22]، وقرئ: مكث ، قال: إنكم ماكثون [الزخرف/ 77]، قال لأهله امكثوا [القصص/ 29].

el-Müks: Bekleyişle birlikte durup kalmak (bir yerde sebat etmek). Şöyle denir: mekese müksen. Yüce Allah şöyle buyurdu: "Çok geçmeden durup kaldı (femekese gayra baîd)" [Neml] [22] — "meküse" şeklinde de okundu. Şöyle buyurdu: "Siz (burada) kalıcı olanlarsınız (inneküm mâkisûn)" [43:77]. "Ailesine: 'Bekleyin (imküsû)' dedi" [28:29].
