أينما تكونوا يلحقكم الموت في أي مكان كنتم فيه عند حلول آجالكم، ولو كنتم في حصون منيعة بعيدة عن ساحة المعارك والقتال. وإن يحصل لهم ما يسرُّهم من متاع هذه الحياة، ينسبوا حصوله إلى الله تعالى، وإن وقع عليهم ما يكرهونه ينسبوه إلى الرسول محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم جهالة وتشاؤمًا، وما علموا أن ذلك كله من عند الله وحده، بقضائه وقدره، فما بالهم لا يقاربون فَهْمَ أيِّ حديث تحدثهم به؟

Nerede olursaniz olun, sağlam kaleler içinde bulunsanız bile, ölüm size yetişecektir. Onlara bir iyilik gelirse: "Bu Allah'tandır" derler, bir kötülüğe uğrarlarsa "Bu, senin tarafındandır" derler. De ki: "Hepsi Allah'tandır". Bunlara ne oluyor ki, hiçbir sözü anlamaya yanaşmıyorlar?

Her nerede olursanız olun ölüm size yetişir, son derece sağlam kaleler içinde de bulunsanız yine kurtulamazsınız. Onlara bir iyilik erişirse "Bu, Allahtandır" derler, bir kötülüğe uğrarlarsa, "Bu, senin yüzündendir." derler. Ey Muhammed! De ki: "Hepsi Allah'tandır." Bu topluma ne oluyor ki, hiç söz anlamaya yanaşmıyorlar?

If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah"; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet). Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?

Death will overtake you no matter where you may be, even inside high towers.’ When good fortune comes their way, they say, ‘This is from God,’ but when harm befalls them, they say, ‘This is from you [Prophet].’ Say to them, ‘Both come from God.’ What is the matter with these people that they can barely understand what they are told?

Yet if a happy thing befalleth them they say: This is from Allah; and if an evil thing befalleth them they say: This is of thy doing (O Muhammad). Say (unto them): All is from Allah. What is amiss with these people that they come not nigh to understand a happening?
