واتخذ قوم موسى من بعد ما فارقهم ماضيًا لمناجاة ربه معبودًا مِن ذهبهم عِجلا جسدًا بلا روح، له صوت، ألم يعلموا أنه لا يكلمهم، ولا يرشدهم إلى خير؟ أَقْدَمُوا على ما أقدموا عليه من هذا الأمر الشنيع، وكانوا ظالمين لأنفسهم واضعين الشيء في غير موضعه.

Musa'nın ardından milleti, ziynet takımlarından, canlıymış gibi böğüren bir buzağı heykeli yaparak onu tanrı edindiler. O buzağının kendileriyle konuşmadığını ve yol da göstermediğini görmediler mi? Onu tanrı olarak benimseyip kendilerine yazık ettiler.

Musa’nın kavmi, ondan (Sînâ’ya gidişinden) sonra ziynet (eşya)larından boğuk bir sese sahip bir ceset şeklindeki buzağı heykelini (ilah) edinmişti. O (buzağının) kendilerine konuşamadığını ve onlara yol gösteremediğini görmediler mi? Onu (ilah olarak) benimsemişlerdi ve zalimlerden olmuşlardı.

The people of Moses made, in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of calf, (for worship): it seemed to low: did they not see that it could neither speak to them, nor show them the way? They took it for worship and they did wrong.
