Allah peygamberlerden ahid almıştı: "And olsun ki size Kitap, hikmet verdim; sizde olanı tasdik eden bir peygamber gelecek, ona mutlaka inanacaksınız ve ona mutlaka yardım edeceksiniz, ikrar edip bu ahdi kabul ettiniz mi?" demişti. "İkrar ettik" demişlerdi de: "Şahid olun, Ben de sizinle beraber şahidlerdenim" demişti.

Allah peygamberlerden şöyle söz almıştı: "Andolsun ki size kitab ve hikmet verdim, sonra yanınızda bulunan (kitaplar)ı doğrulayıcı bir peygamber geldiğinde ona muhakkak inanacak ve ona yardım edeceksiniz! Bunu kabul ettiniz mi? Ve bu hususta ağır ahdimi üzerinize aldınız mı?" demişti. Onlar: "Kabul ettik" dediler. (Allah da) dedi ki: "Öyleyse şahit olun, ben de sizinle beraber şahit olanlardanım".

Hani Allah peygamberlerden “Ben size Kitap ve hikmet (doğru hüküm verme yeteneği) verdikten sonra beraberinizdekileri onaylayan bir elçi geldiğinde ona mutlaka inanacak ve yardım edeceksiniz.” diye söz almıştı. “Bunu kabul ettiniz mi? Bu ağır sözümü üstlendiniz mi?” dediğinde, “Kabul ettik.” demişlerdi. (Bunun üzerine Allah) “(Birbirinize) şahit olun! Ben de sizinle birlikte şahitlik edenlerdenim.” demişti.

Behold! Allah took the covenant of the prophets, saying: "I give you a Book and Wisdom; then comes to you a messenger, confirming what is with you; do ye believe in him and render him help." Allah said: "Do ye agree, and take this my Covenant as binding on you?" They said: "We agree." He said: "Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses."

God took a pledge from the prophets, saying, ‘If, after I have bestowed Scripture and wisdom upon you, a messenger comes confirming what you have been given, you must believe in him and support him. Do you affirm this and accept My pledge as binding on you?’ They said, ‘We do.’ He said, ‘Then bear witness and I too will bear witness.’

When Allah made (His) covenant with the prophets, (He said): Behold that which I have given you of the Scripture and knowledge. And afterward there will come unto you a messenger, confirming that which ye possess. Ye shall believe in him and ye shall help him. And [recall, O People of the Scripture], when Allāh took the covenant of the prophets, [saying], "Whatever I give you of the Scripture and wisdom and then there comes to you a messenger confirming what is with you, you [must] believe in him and support him." واذكر -أيها الرسول- إذ أخذ الله سبحانه العهد المؤكد على جميع الأنبياء: لَئِنْ آتيتكم من كتاب وحكمة، ثم جاءكم رسول من عندي، مصدق لما معكم لتؤمنن به ولتنصرنَّه. فهل أقررتم واعترفتم بذلك وأخذتم على ذلك عهدي الموثق؟ قالوا: أقررنا بذلك، قال: فليشهدْ بعضكم على بعض، واشهدوا على أممكم بذلك، وأنا معكم من الشاهدين عليكم وعليهم. وفي هذا أن الله أخذ الميثاق على كل نبي أن يؤمن بمحمد صلى الله عليه وسلم، وأخذ الميثاق على أمم الأنبياء بذلك.
