Had We sent down this Qur'an on a mountain, verily, thou wouldst have seen it humble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes which We propound to men, that they may reflect.

If We had sent this Quran down to a mountain, you [Prophet] would have seen it humbled and split apart in its awe of God: We offer people such illustrations so that they may reflect.

لو أنزلنا هذا القرآن على جبل من الجبال، ففهم ما فيه مِن وعد ووعيد، لأبصَرْته على قوته وشدة صلابته وضخامته، خاضعًا ذليلا متشققًا من خشية الله تعالى. وتلك الأمثال نضربها، ونوضحها للناس؛ لعلهم يتفكرون في قدرة الله وعظمته. وفي الآية حث على تدبر القرآن، وتفهم معانيه، والعمل به.
