حتى إذا وصل ذو القرنين إلى مغرب الشمس وجدها في مرأى العين كأنها تغرب في عين حارة ذات طين أسود، ووجد عند مغربها قومًا. قلنا: يا ذا القرنين إما أن تعذبهم بالقتل أو غيره، إن لم يقروا بتوحيد الله، وإما أن تحسن إليهم، فتعلمهم الهدى وتبصرهم الرشاد.

Sonunda güneşin battığı yere ulaşınca onu, kara balçıklı bir suda batıyor gördü. Orada bir millete rastladı. "Zülkarneyn! Onlara azap da edebilirsin, iyi muamelede de bulunabilirsin" dedik.

Nihayet güneşin battığı yere vardığı zaman, güneşi, (sanki) kara bir balçıkta batıyor buldu. Bir de bunun yanında bir kavim buldu. Biz ona dedik ki: "Ey Zülkarneyn! Onları ya cezalandırırsın veya onların hakkında iyi davranırsın."

Sonunda Güneş'in battığı yere varınca, onu kara balçık bir (su) kaynağında batar bulmuştu. Onun yanında (orada) bir toplum bulmuştu. Bunun üzerine “Ey Zülkarneyn! Onlara ya (kötü yöneterek) azap edersin ya da haklarında güzel davranma yolunu seçersin.” demiştik.
