لما قتل قابيلُ أخاه لم يعرف ما يصنع بجسده، فأرسل الله غرابًا يحفر حفرةً في الأرض ليدفن فيها غرابًا مَيِّتًا؛ ليدل قابيل كيف يدفن جُثمان أخيه؟ فتعجَّب قابيل، وقال: أعجزتُ أن أصنع مثل صنيع هذا الغراب فأستُرَ عورة أخي؟ فدَفَنَ قابيل أخاه، فعاقبه الله بالندامة بعد أن رجع بالخسران.

Allah, kardeşinin ölüsünü nasıl gömeceğini göstermek üzere, ona yeri eşeleyen bir karga gönderdi. "Bana yazıklar olsun! Kardeşimin ölüsünü örtmek için bu karga kadar olmaktan aciz kaldım" dedi de ettiğine yananlardan oldu.

Derken Allah bir karga gönderdi, ona kardeşinin cesedini nasıl gömeceğini göstermek için toprağı eşeliyordu. "Yazıklar olsun bana, şu karga kadar olup da kardeşimin cesedini gömmekten âciz miyim ben?" dedi ve pişman olanlardan oldu.

Then Allah sent a raven, who scratched the ground, to show him how to hide the shame of his brother. "Woe is me!" said he; "Was I not even able to be as this raven, and to hide the shame of my brother?" then he became full of regrets-

God sent a raven to scratch up the ground and show him how to cover his brother’s corpse and he said, ‘Woe is me! Could I not have been like this raven and covered up my brother’s body?’ He became remorseful.

Then Allah sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother's naked corpse. He said: Woe unto me! Am I not able to be as this raven and so hide my brother's naked corpse? And he became repentant.

Then Allāh sent a crow searching [i.e., scratching] in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the disgrace [i.e., body] of my brother?" And he became of the regretful.
