إنّ عدة الشهور في حكم الله وفيما كُتب في اللوح المحفوظ اثنا عشر شهرًا، يوم خلق السموات والأرض، منها أربعة حُرُم؛ حرَّم الله فيهنَّ القتال (هي: ذو القعدة وذو الحجة والمحرم ورجب) ذلك هو الدين المستقيم، فلا تظلموا فيهن أنفسكم؛ لزيادة تحريمها، وكون الظلم فيها أشد منه في غيرها، لا أنَّ الظلم في غيرها جائز. وقاتلوا المشركين جميعًا كما يقاتلونكم جميعًا، واعلموا أن الله مع أهل التقوى بتأييده ونصره.

Allah'ın gökleri ve yeri yarattığı günkü yazısında, Allah'a göre ayların sayısı onikidir. Bunlardan dördü hürmetli aydır. Bu dosdoğru bir nizamdır. Öyleyse o aylar içinde kendinize yazık etmeyin, topyekun sizinle savaşan putperestlerle siz de topyekun savaşın, Allah'ın sakınanlarla beraber olduğunu bilin.

Doğrusu, Allah katında ayların sayısı oniki aydır. Gökleri ve yeri yarattığı günkü Allah yazısında (böyle yazılmıştır). Bunlardan dördü haram aylardır. Bu da doğru olan dinin hükmüdür. Bu sebeple bunlar hakkında nefislerinize haksızlık yapmayınız. Müşrikler size karşı topyekün savaştıkları gibi siz de onlara karşı topyekün savaş açın. Ve iyi bilin ki, Allah müttakilerle beraberdir.

The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year)- so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred: that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves therein, and fight the Pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.

God decrees that there are twelve months- ordained in God’s Book on the Day when He created the heavens and earth- four months of which are sacred: this is the correct calculation. Do not wrong your souls in these months- though you may fight the idolaters at any time, if they first fight you- remember that God is with those who are mindful of Him.
