وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ قَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ

Translation

EN

When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed; come to the Messenger": They say: "Enough for us are the ways we found our fathers following." what! even though their fathers were void of knowledge and guidance?

when it is said to them, ‘Come to what God has sent down, and to the Messenger,’ they say, ‘What we inherited from our forefathers is good enough for us,’ even though their forefathers knew nothing and were not guided.

And when it is said unto them: Come unto that which Allah hath revealed and unto the messenger, they say: Enough for us is that wherein we found our fathers. What! Even though their fathers had no knowledge whatsoever, and no guidance?

وإذا قيل لهؤلاء الكفار المحرِّمين ما أحل الله: تعالوا إلى تنزيل الله وإلى رسوله ليتبين لكم الحلال والحرام، قالوا: يكفينا ما ورثناه عن آبائنا من قول وعمل، أيقولون ذلك ولو كان آباؤهم لا يعلمون شيئًا أي: لا يفهمون حقًّا ولا يعرفونه، ولا يهتدون إليه؟ فكيف يتبعونهم، والحالة هذه؟ فإنه لا يتبعهم إلا من هو أجهل منهم وأضل سبيلا.
