3:154

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْغَمِّ أَمَنَةً نُّعَاسًا يَغْشَىٰ طَآئِفَةً مِّنكُمْ ۖ وَطَآئِفَةٌ قَدْ أَهَمَّتْهُمْ أَنفُسُهُمْ يَظُنُّونَ بِٱللَّهِ غَيْرَ ٱلْحَقِّ ظَنَّ ٱلْجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ ۖ يَقُولُونَ هَل لَّنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُۥ لِلَّهِ ۗ يُخْفُونَ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِم مَّا لَا يُبْدُونَ لَكَ ۖ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ كَانَ لَنَا مِنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ شَىْءٌ مَّا قُتِلْنَا هَـٰهُنَا ۗ قُل لَّوْ كُنتُمْ فِى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَبَرَزَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَتْلُ إِلَىٰ مَضَاجِعِهِمْ ۖ وَلِيَبْتَلِىَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فِى صُدُورِكُمْ وَلِيُمَحِّصَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ

Translation

EN

After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber, while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah-suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?" Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah's." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.

After sorrow, He caused calm to descend upon you, a sleep that overtook some of you. Another group, caring only for themselves, entertained false thoughts about God, thoughts more appropriate to pagan ignorance, and said, ‘Do we get a say in any of this?’ [Prophet], tell them, ‘Everything to do with this affair is in God’s hands.’ They conceal in their hearts things they will not reveal to you. They say, ‘If we had had our say in this, none of us would have been killed here.’ Tell them, ‘Even if you had resolved to stay at home, those who were destined to be killed would still have gone out to meet their deaths.’ God did this in order to test everything within you and in order to prove what is in your hearts. God knows your innermost thoughts very well.

Then, after grief, He sent down security for you. As slumber did it overcome a party of you, while (the other) party, who were anxious on their own account, thought wrongly of Allah, the thought of ignorance. They said: Have we any part in the cause? Say (O Muhammad): The cause belongeth wholly to Allah. They hide within themselves (a thought) which they reveal not unto thee, saying: Had we had any part in the cause we should not have been slain here. Say: Even though ye had been in your houses, those appointed to be slain would have gone forth to the places where they were to lie. (All this hath been) in order that Allah might try what is in your breasts and prove what is in your hearts. Allah is Aware of what is hidden in the breasts (of men).

Then after distress, He sent down upon you security [in the form of] drowsiness, overcoming a faction of you, while another faction worried about themselves, thinking of Allāh other than the truth - the thought of ignorance, saying, "Is there anything for us [to have done] in this matter?" Say, "Indeed, the matter belongs completely to Allāh." They conceal within themselves what they will not reveal to you. They say, "If there was anything we could have done in the matter, we [i.e., some of us] would not have been killed right here." Say, "Even if you had been inside your houses, those decreed to be killed would have come out to their death beds." [It was] so that Allāh might test what is in your breasts and purify what is in your hearts. And Allāh is Knowing of that within the breasts.

Kederden sonra, bir takımınızı kendinden geçirecek şekilde size huzur ve emniyet indirdi; oysa bir takımınız da kendi derdlerine düşmüşlerdi. Haksız yere Allah hakkında, cahiliye devrinde olduğu gibi inanıyorlar. "Bu işte bizim bir fikrimiz var mı?" diyorlardı; De ki: "Buyruğun hepsi Allah'ındır". Sana açmadıklarını içlerinde gizliyorlar. "Bu işte bizim fikrimiz alınsaydı, burada öldürülmezdik" diyorlar. De ki: Evlerinizde olsaydınız, haklarında ölüm yazılı olan kimseler, yine de devrilecekleri yere varırlardı. Bu, Allah'ın içinizde olanı denemesi, kalblerinizde olanı arıtması içindir. Allah gönüllerde olanı bilir.

Sonra o kederin ardından (Allah) üzerinize öyle bir eminlik, öyle bir uyku indirdi ki, o, içinizden bir zümreyi örtüp bürüyordu. Bir zümre de canları sevdasına düşmüştü. Allah'a karşı, cahiliyet zannı gibi, hakka aykırı bir zan besliyorlar ve "Bu işten bize ne?" diyorlardı. De ki: "Bütün iş Allah'ındır". Onlar sana açıklamayacaklarını içlerinde saklıyorlar (ve) diyorlar ki: "Bize bu işten bir şey olsaydı burada öldürülmezdik". Onlara şöyle söyle: "Eğer siz evlerinizde olsaydınız bile, üzerlerine öldürülmesi yazılmış olanlar yine muhakkak yatacakları (öldürülecekleri) yerlere çıkıp gidecekti. Allah (bunu) göğüslerinizin içindekini denemek ve yüreklerinizdekini temizlemek için yaptı. Allah göğüslerin içinde olanı bilir.

Sonra (Allah) o kederin arkasından size bir güven indirdi ki (bu güvenin yol açtığı) uyuklama hâli bir kısmınızı kaplıyordu. Kendi canlarının kaygısına düşmüş bir grup da Allah hakkında cahiliye devrindeki türden yanlış ve yersiz zanlara kapılıyorlar ve “Bu işten bize ne var?” diyorlardı. De ki: “İş (karar), tamamen Allah’a aittir. Onlar, sana açıklayamadıklarını içlerinde gizliyorlar.” (Onlar) “Bu işten bize bir şey olsaydı, burada öldürülmezdik.” diyorlar. (Onlara) de ki: “Evlerinizde kalmış olsaydınız bile öldürülmesi yazılmış olanlar, yataklarına (düşecekleri yerlere) çıkıp giderlerdi. Allah göğüslerinizdekileri (kalplerinizdekileri) deneyip ortaya çıkarmak ve kalplerinizdekileri arındırmak için (böyle yaptı). Allah göğüslerin (kalplerin) özünü bilendir.”

ثم كان من رحمة الله بالمؤمنين المخلصين أن ألقى في قلوبهم من بعد ما نزل بها من همٍّ وغمٍّ اطمئنانًا وثقة في وعد الله، وكان من أثره نعاس غَشِي طائفة منهم، وهم أهل الإخلاص واليقين، وطائفة أُخرى أهمَّهم خلاص أنفسهم خاصة، وضَعُفَتْ عزيمتهم وشُغِلوا بأنفسهم، وأساؤوا الظن بربهم وبدينه وبنبيه، وظنوا أن الله لا يُتِمُّ أمر رسوله، وأن الإسلام لن تقوم له قائمة، ولذلك تراهم نادمين على خروجهم، يقول بعضهم لبعض: هل كان لنا من اختيار في الخروج للقتال؟ قل لهم -أيها الرسول-: إن الأمر كلَّه لله، فهو الذي قدَّر خروجكم وما حدث لكم، وهم يُخْفون في أنفسهم ما لا يظهرونه لك من الحسرة على خروجهم للقتال، يقولون: لو كان لنا أدنى اختيار ما قُتِلنا هاهنا. قل لهم: إن الآجال بيد الله، ولو كنتم في بيوتكم، وقدَّر الله أنكم تموتون، لخرج الذين كتب الله عليهم الموت إلى حيث يُقْتلون، وما جعل الله ذلك إلا ليختبر ما في صدوركم من الشك والنفاق، وليميز الخبيث من الطيب، ويظهر أمر المؤمن من المنافق للناس في الأقوال والأفعال. والله عليم بما في صدور خلقه، لا يخفى عليه شيء من أمورهم.
